Description
Ln(2), the natural log of 2, is approximately .69314718. But it can't be exactly represented as a decimal number since it's irrational.
This number is the sum of an alternating harmonic series. That is: 1 - 1/2 + 1/3 - 1/4 + 1/5, etc.
The number e, also known as Euler's number, is approximately 2.71828183. This is also an irrational number.
The number e raised to the ln(2) power is 2.
There is a nice link between the number e and the number pi. ~Darkstarukuk did a nice portrayal of this relationship at [link]
I occasionally use the harmonic series for perspective drawings. To see my harmonic perspective drawings, go to [link]

I'm afraid I never got into mathematics this high in college; I might be able to grasp it if someone explained it to me, but I wouldn't want to put you to any trouble. It's a neat illustration, but less interesting to me personally than your organic tessellations.
