Tree of Abraham by Hop41 Tree of Abraham by Hop41
At the bottom of this image is a sandy beach and the Horsehead Nebula which refers to God's promise to Abraham that his descendants would be as numerous as the grains of sand on a beach or the stars in the sky. At the base of the tree I attempted to write "Abraham" in Hebrew as well as the modern Roman alphabet. From Abraham came three great religions: Chistianity, Judaism and Islam. I was going to use the crescent moon and star to symbolize Islam but Googling discovered many Muslims don't regard the symbol of the Ottoman empire as a symbol their faith. Instead I attempted to write the word "Allah" in Arabic.
It is a tragedy that much of the world's violence comes from conflict between the seed of Abraham. I pray for a miracle that there may be peace among the children of Abraham

I didn't understand the script in your comment. So I copied and pasted into Google translate and was pleased to see the word "peace".

I am mostly an English speaker (but know a little Spanish). A lot of the image is derived from research done with Google. I hope I drew the letters correctly.

Your work has geometric quality which I like.

The landscape and background are absolutely fantastic. Why then draw this cartoon-style imagery on top of that though? I understand how it symbolically makes sense but stylistically I think it's a huge break-down. How the roots of the tree seems to merge with the stars is brilliant though.

By the way, you don't have to respond to this if you don't want to as I wouldn't want to force you into a discussion nor do I mean any disrespect, but I never understood how someone can have so much to do with science and astronomy and still regard religion so highly.

this is really nice. I was browsing DA to find islam related imagery and i found out your work.
im myself drawing something related to that and was not sure about the islam symbol ( moon and star ). I think its true that the
allah symbol has much more sense for muslim than anyone else.

In the upper right is a button "Download Image" that will allow you to download a high resolution version. If you like, you can download it and take the file to a print shop.

On a lot of my images, I've disabled the Download Image option and offer them as prints for sale. But this particular image I wish to give out free of charge.

Love this image so much! I'm looking for contemporary art to illustrate my People of the Book Calendar for 2011, and I would love to include this image. It would show your name and copyright, of course.

My calendar is three calendars in one: Jewish, Christian and Islamic. The goal is to foster education and understanding between members of the Abrahamic religions in a subtle and non-agressive way.

If you would like me to include this image please let me know. :)

Great. I'll let you know as soon as I have the calendar ready. How exactly would you like your name and copyright to appear so I can add it to the image? Also, if you can recommend an other images for my calendar, please do. :)

Thanks again.

Other images? There is this one:

Not specific to Abrahamic religions, but hoping for peace on our planet.

Also there is this illustration of Exodus 3:2:

Since Exodus is from the old testament, I would guess there are similar passages in the Jewish and Islamic scriptures. But I don't know that for a fact.

Yes, I believe this passage is also in Torah and Koran. And it is a striking and beautiful image. Thank you.

The one about the the moon's orbit creating a peace sign is wonderful, too. I will certainly consider it.

Thank you so much. :)

The violence between the offspring of Abraham was prophesied in Genesis as well.

I reckon God loves wars :)

Interesting. Do you know where I could find that passage?

Well, I certainly hope God is a benevolent and loving entity. I believe most of our suffering is the consequence of free will.

About Ishmael:

"...he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him.."
Genesis 16:12

About Esau:

"Two nations are in your womb. Two peoples will be separated from your body. The one people will be stronger than the other people. The elder will serve the younger."

Genesis 25:23

"By your sword you shall live, And your brother you shall serve; But it shall come about when you become restless, That you will break his yoke from your neck."

Genesis 27:40

sigh...

If there is a God than he is a manipulative sadist who enjoys pitting his followers against each other, forever bringing them to new depths of inhumanity.

From the old testament in the Bible.
God told him his descendants would be as numerous as the grains of sand on a beach or the stars in the sky. He is the father of the Jews.
His descendants form 3 great religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
Technically, some Christians may not have Jewish ancestors, but Christians like to think of themselves as adopted children into the faith.

"Arab Muslims trace their lineage back to Abraham through Ishmael. They also see Ishmael as the one through whom God’s covenant would be fulfilled. The Koran says about Ishmael: “And mention Ishmael in the Book; surely he was truthful in (his) promise, and he was an apostle, a prophet. And he enjoined on his family prayer and almsgiving, and was one in whom his Lord was well pleased.” (Marium 19:54-55). " This is from [link]

His Arabic name is Ibrahim, I think. He was the one ordered to sacrifice his son, and then told "this is only a test", and so a goat was killed in his son's place.

Trying to write in an alphabet and language I don't know made me anxious. I used to chuckle when reading english instructions written by someone from Taiwan. But my own efforts to use other languages has left me less critical.

For these reasons I especially appreciate your comments!
