Peace on Lagrange

The 5 Lagrange points of the Earth Moon system, with earth as the center and the the moon's orbit making a circle, suggest a peace sign.

In a rotating system there is an outward push that some call centrifugal force. You may have felt this while riding on a merry-go-round. There are places in in the earth moon system where centrifugal force, the moon's gravity, and earth's gravity all cancel out. These are the 5 Langrange points. Objects in these locations can co rotate with the earth-moon system in relatively stable orbits.

L1 and L2 may be important hubs for Space Superhighways [link] , potentially a way to deliver cargo and people to various destinations with very little delta V (change in velocity).

Nasa is currently looking at using the earth moon L1 and L2 points as staging areas for lunar as well as interplanetary missions. The low delta-V n-body trajectories emanating from Lagrange points have already been used for ESA's SMART-1, Japan's Hiten, and the SOHO Solar and Heliospheric observatory parked in a Sun Earth L1 halo orbit.
