Escher Gravity Turtles by Hop41 Escher Gravity Turtles by Hop41
In his print "Gravity" M. C. Escher placed 12 monsters on the star faces of a small stellated dodecahedron. Escher had thought of using turtles instead of monsters. I am sad he didn't -- with all the polygons on a turtle, they are walking polyhedra! So in this polyhedral study I used polyhedral turtles.

This looks freaky smart!!!
So there are 12 turtles in 5,or how many colors?

Super impresive effect!

The slight skew of the turtles remind me of snub dodecahedron. Maybe you can make one with snub dodecahedron instead of small stellated dodecahedron.

While some may call me weak minded for saying that the world sits upon a turtle,
and that that turtle sits upon another turtle, and it's turtles all the way down;
But don't tell me the unexamined life isn't worth living,
as I ride my infinite turtle fortress across the sky.

I'd say that I wish you had a template, but my models suffer from my lack of hand-eye coordination and lousy fine motor skills, so I bet it's beyond my skillrange. Awesome work though

Perhaps it was turtles' tails that perturbed Escher. With its tail prominent & included, a turtle is a 6-pointed figure. It's not the 5-pointed figure one would want in a dodecahedron, which is made up of pentagons.

You might be right. My tail-less turtles are an aberration.

Took me a lot of hours with an exacto knife and elmer's glue (not to mention lots of teeth gnashing in Microsoft Excel). Would have to charge hundreds of dollars for a decent wage.

However I'm thinking about doing 3D prints with Maker Bot or something like that. That might be affordable. Might make a good Christmas decoration.
